Standup

After years of writing material, some college improv experience, and the occasional attempt to write funny songs, I decided to give standup a serious shot in 2016 in Houston. I appeared on a couple of showcases and for a time booked twice-monthly shows at Khon’s Bar.

I wasn’t able to do as much standup in 2018 while I was working in Fayetteville, Arkansas, but I performed a few sets there. In 2019 I moved to Denver for a job and my performing became more sporadic, but I still get on the mic from time to time.

With the COVID-19 pandemic, obviously I haven’t been performing live very much. But I am podcasting, as you’ll see below.

You can see two sets of mine from showcases at PJ’s Sports Bar in Houston here. The first is from July 2017; the second is from September 2018. I have a couple newer videos I’ll try to get up here sometime.

Podcast

After some initial false starts, I started a podcast in 2020. My Houston comic friends Drew Hollway and Justin Massengale join me on mic; the podcast is mostly conversational / improvised comedy on what’s on our mind, or going on in the world, or on the internet. A lot of that is making bad puns, lowbrow jokes, or song parodies when we can’t think of anything else.

Despite the present tense of the previous paragraph, the podcast ended in 2023. You can find the archives below:

I don’t know if I’ll get back to doing standup. I quite enjoy it, but the time investment vs. stage time in my new home is prohibitive in a way it wasn’t in Houston.
